Easter Fun Days out in and around Manchester

Easter weekend is upon on us! It's really crept up on me this year as my son only broke up from school yesterday and I'm used to him finishing the term a full week before the bank holiday!

Either way I am thrilled to have two weeks off work to spend some quality time with my family and wanted to share with you some of our plans over the Easter break. In true My Mummy's Pennies Style we will be planning lots fun days out that won't break the bank!

Today we attended the sixth annual Manchester Duck Race which is held in Spinningfields to raise money for local charity BrainWave.

The event is free to attend and family ducks were available to purchase to enter the race at just £1 with all money raised going to charity. Despite the rain we had a lovely time and really enjoyed watching the corporate ducks race with their fun customisations! Our favourites were Captain America and the Hulk (I doubt this is suprising to regular readers who know we are big Avengers fans!) It as our fourth time attending and I hope we will return next year too!

Cadbury's National Trust Easter Egg Hunt

We've been National Trust Members since our youngest was a toddler and are lucky to live so close to quite a few great sites including Dunham Massey which is our favourite. Across the Easter weekend over 300 National Trust locations are teaming up with Cadbury's and hosting fun, family Easter Egg Hunts in their beautiful spring woodlands and gardens. Every trail will start at Base Camp where children will receive their Eggsplorer Trail Journal containing their eggspedition trail map and clues so they stay on track, after successfully completing the trail each Eggsplorer will be rewarded with a delicious Cadbury Egghead. You can find your nearest trail here. The Easter Egg Trails are free to members or normal admission fees apply to non-members. I find our family membership really great value as we get to visit a number of different properties each year for one set fee.

Free Easter Egg Hunt App from Gamar

Although we have lots of days out planned i'll also be planning some Easter themed activities at home including an Easter Egg Hunt in the garden (or inside if the weather doesn't improve!) and I was delighted to discover this FREE augmented reality app from Gamar which is fab for creating interactive Easter Egg hunts around your home, garden or even a public place like a local park, You can download it for FREE on the Google Play Store or itunes App Store.

Room on the Broom Live at the Lowry

The live stage show of our favourite Julia Donaldson book, Room on the Broom is coming to the Lowry Theatre in Salford this Easter  from Tuesday 7th April to Sunday 12th tickets start from just £12.50 and can be purchased from the box office. We're excited to be seeing the show on Tuesday so i'll be sharing my thoughts with you after that!

Free Daily Activities at Museum of Science and Industry (MOSI)

The Museum of Science and Industry is one our favourite local museums and always puts on a great selection of school holiday activities around its current exhibitions. Daily activities are available based around the exhibitions;  Power: Fighting War from the Factory Floor and The Innovation Race: Manchester’s Makers Join the First World War.
With a suggested donation of just £3 per person it's a great value day out for the whole family this Easter.

Cinderella and Frozen Fever at the Cinema

My children (hey, who am I kidding? My whole family!) is Disney mad so we have been eagerly awaiting the release of the new Cinderella movie, in no small part due to the addition of the Frozen Fever short exclusively shown at the beginning of the film. We went to watch it this week and loved it. I won't give anything away but would truly recommend it as a fun way to spend a few rainy hours these Easter holidays! Check out offers at your local cinema to get the best deal. We found that going handy in the morning got us the best price!

So that's just a taste of what we'll be up to this Easter, what plans do you have? I'd love to hear about other days out in the North West so please do share...

#365 #week14 Easter catch up!

On Monday I  posted my 365 photos from the week end and apologised, for not posting them daily, well I'm afraid I have another apology for you! I've been so busy enjoying the Easter holidays with the children that although I have been taking photos every day I just haven't had time to post each day, so here is a collage of my photos of the day for each day from Good Friday to now, we have had a fun filled week and i'll tell you more about each one below...

#88 - We had a lovely day at the Manchester Duck race in aid of Brainwave, this is my little Easter Bunny holding Daddy and Nanna's hand on the way to the race.

#89 - We had a fun day out at the brand new Dog Bowl  in Manchester City centre, Ben is getting really good at bowling and both the children beat me!

#90 - We had a lovely Easter Sunday visiting family in the morning and then exploring Heaton Park in the afternoon  and had a lovely ride on the old fashioned trams...

#91 - Monday was a restful day to recover from a busy weekend and get prepared for work on Tuesday and I was delighted to be able to dry Elizabeth's nappies on the line for the first time this year! There is just something beautiful about a line full of nappies!

#92 - I was very excited to come home from work to find the postman had delivered our copy of Maggy Woodly's Red Ted Art, we've had it on pre-order since December. We can't wait to get crafting

#93 - Today I just had to take a photograph of the beautiful sky when I stepped of my office, wish I hadn't been stuck inside all day!

#94 - Ben had an exciting day visiting #MOSI with Nanna and I was very pleased that they came to meet me for lunch at Bagel Nash just  round the corner from my office. My handsome boy gave me a gorgeous grn wen I walked in!

#95 - Ben had another fun day with Nanna and they did some baking, When I came home from work, this lovely chocolate krispie cake was thrust upon me with the words, 'I made you a heart shaped one Mummy, because I love you!' I think my heart melted!

#96 - Today we visited the Trafford Centre and had great fun taking part in the #LEGOyodabuild, Both the children really enjoyed helping to build a giant Yoda from LEGO and posing for photos with Lightsabers, but Ben's absolute part of the day was meeting Darth Vader! We also enjoyed the nice weather and went for yummy Cadwaller ice creams on the way home.

So that was my (slightly extended) week, I promise I will start posting the each day again tomorrow...
