Snap up a last minute Father's Day card with Postsnap on IOS

Father's has come around quickly this year and although I have been planning gifts for a while, I had left the cards until the eleventh hour and was starting to panic. We have a rather large extended family so it's not just a case of getting a something for my husband from my children, we also have my Dad, my Father in Law and my husband's Grandad to buy for!

As a busy working mum it can be difficult to find time to get to the shops, least of all with the children in tow so they can help to choose the cards. So I was thrilled to discover an easy to use free  app that allowed me to order all the Father's Day cards I needed with just a few taps on my iphone or ipad! I didn't even need to buy a stamp or walk to the postbox!

Postsnap is available to download free on the App Store and has a great variety of cards that you can personalise using photos from your photo library. You can also tailor the design of the cards to suit your recipient, changing the colour scheme, the font and add your own wording.

My two children helped choose the design they wanted for their Daddy's card, (a super hero of course!) decided on the wording and the colours, chose a picture of Daddy from my phone and created it themselves! I added in the address and we completed the order. The whole process took just a few minutes and we can't wait for it to arrive so Daddy can open it on Sunday!

Father's Day and other greetings cards cost just £3 with free delivery direct to your recipient (or they can be sent to you with a spare envelope). Postsnap can also used to create announcement cards, invitations and postcards starting from just 70p each. You can even set up reminders for important dates so you never forget to send a card!

Paying for your purchases couldn't be easier either, you can use a credit card, debit card or purchase prepay credit and get a bonus free credit!

If like me you have left Father's day to the last minute then don't worry! You can still get a fabulous personalised card delivered in time for Father's Day this Sunday, just download the Postsnap app create and order your card before midnight tonight!

Save even more with a 20% discount

As a special treat you can get 20% discount off your first order when you use promo code MUMMYSPENNIES  (no expiry on this so it's for any cards throughout the year!)

We were kindly given credit two create two cards on postsnap to try it out.

Celebrate Mother's Day with Debenhams Flowers

save 25% off mother's day flowers at debenhams

Mother's Day is just a month away (15th March 2015 if you want to add it to your diaries) and it will be upon us before we know it! In our family we buy for Mums Grans, Nannas and Great Grans so the costs can add up. I have been trying to be organised for a change and have been planning gifts already. I have a few ideas to bring you over the next few weeks. The first one comes courtesy of Debenhams Flowers who offer a great selection of gifts for Mother's Day.

They offered to send me a bouquet of my choice from their Flower Delivery selection. After browsing through the Mother's Day section I was delighted at the choice available but rather predictably chose a bouquet of roses, my favourite flower and one that holds a lot of personal meaning for me. The bouquet I settled on was of Princess Victoria two tone vintage garden roses. The peach and cream colours really stood out on the website and I could see how they would brighten up any room. At £29.99 I thought the cost was in line with what I would usually be looking to spend on my mum this Mother's Day.

Photo from http://www.debenhamsflowers.com/princess-victoria
I was able to choose a delivery day of my choice for the flowers to arrive, they were delivered in the morning and my mum took them them, not knowing what to do with them, she left the box in the hallway until I got in from work. Despite being left in the box for over six hours after delivery the flowers were beautifully fresh when opened and looked even nicer than in the website pictures.

I immediately decanted them in to my favouite vase and thought the turquoise colour brought out the two tone peach and creams in the roses wonderfully.

The images above were taken between the day the flowers arrived and 9 days later. They remained beautiful and in bloom throughout this time and made me smile every time I walked in to the room.

This bouquet would make am ideal gift for Mum, Gran or any one else this Mother's Day. Debenhams Fowers offer a range of specially selected Mother's Day bouquets stating from just £19.99 including standard postal delivery. (Named Day delivery by courier is only an extra £2.99)
Find out how you can save money on your favourite bouquets below:

The lovely folks at Debenhams Flowers have given me an exclusive discount code to share with you. Use code DFBLOG25 to save 25% off Mothers Day Flowers.
(The only bouquets exempt from the discount are the 'Flowers By Post' range.)

I was sent the Vintage Rose bouquet free of charge in exchange for this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Canvas Design UK Review & Giveaway

We live in a rented house so the decor is quite plain and neutral, I dream of buying our first home and decorating in my own style but in the meantime I like to brighten up the walls with photographs and art.

I think personalised canvases are a great way of displaying images on your walls, you can choose the size that best suits your room and the image. It's a great way of decorating with out actually changing anything and it can be quite low cost compared to wall papering too!

Canvas Design are one of the UK's original canvas printing companies and have been printing images on to canvas since 2004.

They offer frames in a variety of sizes from just 6 inches all the way up to 40 inches; now that would make a feature wall! They also offer a choice of two frame depths, the lite at just 18mm or the classic at 38mm.

As you know as a penny pinching Mummy, price is an important factor for me and Canvas Design offer an affordable service with prices starting at just £5.99 and all orders come with free 48 hour shipping!

When we were offered a canvas of our choice to review I immediately started looking at my Instagram account for inspiration and I was really pleased to find that on their website Canvas Design UK have the option to upload your images straight from your Instagram account, Great news for any Instagram addicts like me!

As I mentioned I love to hang images around the house and we already have quite a few canvas's including lovely pictures of the children and a few displaying special moments from our wedding day.

The image I decided on is one of my favourite photographs. I took it myself last October when we
went on a camping trip with some friend to Bolton-le-sands near Morecambe, we went to the beach and had a really lovely day out. I find this image just so peaceful to look at and it really brings back memories of that day and the lovely weekend away we had.

I'm thrilled with how the canvas turned out as the quality is excellent. It makes the 'holiday snap' I took on my iphone and then instagrammed, look like a piece of professional art work!

The whole service from start to finish was helpful and accommodating with the canvas arriving very well protected and packaged within just two days of ordering. I was even sent a text message with an hour time slot on the morning of delivery.

I have a special discount for you to save 15% off anything at http://www.canvasdesign.co.uk just enter promo code BLOG15 at checkout.

Letts Monster Practice Review

My eldest Ben is 6, he's in Year Two at primary school, the youngest in his year. As well as the common issues that August born children often have keeping up with their classmates. It is becoming obvious that there are other concerns with his academic progress. He has hyper-mobility which has affects his fine motor skills and has difficultly concentrating. he is currently under assessment for Dyspraxia.

Ben is a bright little boy who has a great analytic mind and genuinely loves learning. He just needs that bit of extra attention and practice to get there.

letts monster practice workbooks review

We were sent a selection of Monster Skills Practice workbooks from Letts for Ben to review. These included:

·         Handwriting 5-6
·         Spelling and Phonics 5-6
·         Addition and Subtraction 5-6
·         Multiplication and Division 5-6

You can see more about what we both thought in the video below but I thought I'd give a quick written summary here too. Ben absolutely loved the fun monster characters in the Monster Practice books  The colourful creatures really helped to keep his attention and helped him to see these work books as fun and something to look forward to doing rather that 'homework' that he often puts off. These books make learning not only fun but a lot more interesting to him while helping him practice the same skills he is learning in school.

At an RRP of just £3.99 each I would thoroughly recommend the Letts Monster Practice books for any parent as a way of bringing learning home and making it an enjoyable experience.

As well as a vast range of published works to help your child at any stage of their education Letts and Collins have online communities on twitter and facebook to help you support your child and  lettsrevision.com has useful summaries of of the different stages of your child's education as well as free downloadables and student study advice.

You can buy all of the books mentioned and more online at Collins.co.uk and fr the next couple of days only you can get an exclusive  30% discount on Collins Dictionaries, Reference Books, Atlases and Learning Books when you use  promo code BOOKS30 at checkout. This offer is available until 31 January 2014 so be quick!

Visit Santa in the Snow at Chill Factore

What's Christmas without a visit to Santa's Grotto? Last week we took a trip to Chill Factore in Manchester to visit a very special Grotto hidden away in the snow!

If you like your family fun to be full of excitement, nothing beats the magic of Santa’s Snow Grotto on REAL snow this Christmas, It's just like visiting the North Pole!

snow play and santa's grotto at Chill Factore

Santa at Chill Factore is a unique experience that will give the whole family memories to treasure.

Visits to Santa are combined with a snow activity of your choice including:

Snowplay & Santa (Aged 2+) Family of 2 £17
Sledging & Santa (Aged 4+) Family of 2 £38
Tubing & Santa (Aged 4+)
Family of 2 £38
Luge Ice Slide & Santa (Aged 6+) Family of 2 £38

We've been to Chill Factore a few times now and the children (and Daddy) love it! Ben and Daddy have enjoyed Tubing and Sledging  but Elizabeth and I usually leave the adrenaline rush to them and stick to the wintry fun of the snowplay! This time Ben had different ideas and decided I was going sledging with him while Daddy explored the snowplay with Elizabeth. I was left no choice I was going sledging....

sledging and santa's grotto at Chill Factore

We changed into our padded jackets and trousers and were escorted out on to the Snow where we picked up a sledge each and off we went. This was Ben's third time sledging and I couldn't get over how confidant he was with it all! My six year old was teaching me what to do! The session lasted up to 45 minutes but we decided to have a rest and warm up after around 30 which was plenty for us, especially on a weekday evening when it was quite quiet.

We met up with Daddy and Elizabeth who'd been having a lovely time riding on Penguins and exploring the world of snow play just outside of Santa's Grotto....

After taking off our helmets we went in search of the Elves and the queue for the Grotto which was just by the climbing wall, we were lucky as there was only one family in front of us but if you did visit at a busier time there was plenty of activities to eep the little ones entertained, tables were set out with toys, books and coloring fun perfect for keeping the boredom of waiting away!

When it was our turn we were led by a friendly elf into the snow and down a winding path past the snow play to a colourful Grotto out on the snow....

We stepped trough a colourful door and who did we find?

Farther Christmas of course!!

Although Elizabeth immediately became shy and clung onto Daddy, Ben was very excited and had a lovely chat to Santa about Lego and Castles. Father Christmas listened to him intently, asked him questions and had an impressive knowledge of LEGO too!

Each child was presented with a small wrapped gift (Ben was given a Yoyo and Elizabeth a counting games) and there was the opportunity to have a photograph taken too which were available to purchase in a number of formats for between £10 and £15.

I had two very happy but tired children afterwards who really enjoyed visiting Santa in the snow...

Santa will be at his Snow Grotto until Christmas Eve when he'll be rather busy!!

If you visit before Friday 20th December you can take advantage of one of these two great offers:

50% Off Midweek Visits - Valid on midweek visits to Santa with Tubing / Sledging / Luge slide when booked and taken before 20th December 2013. use code:

£10 Santa & Snowplay Family of 2 - Valid on midweek visits to Santa with Snowplay Family of 2 ticket £10 when booked and taken before 20th December.

Have you visited a Grotto this year, what did your children think?

Frugi are coming to you!!

As you probably already know....

We Love Frugi!!!

I first discovered this Cornish Organic Children's Clothing brand when my daughter was wearing cloth nappies and I was looking for clothes that were cut for cloth, but even now she has been out of nappies for a while both my children are still kitted out in Frugi! The funky and unique designs that stand out from the high street offerings are not just pleasing to the eye, they are hard wearing too! From climbing tree's to jumping in muddy puddles, rolling down hills and what ever other messy states that children get in to, my two have done it all in their frugi gear, yet wash after wash it still looks great! And it's all organic too!

I have to admit the prices are higher than I would usually pay for children's clothes but the generous sizing and great quality mean that I am prepared to spend that little bit more!

Saying that though as you know, I'm always on the hunt for a bargain and if you live near Derby, York, Balham, Farnham or Swindon then the Frugi bargains are heading your way! They are leaving sunning Cornwall and are going on a road trip this November to bring you  sale stock at up to 70% off! Wow!

Check out your nearest pop up sale location below...

If like me you aren't near enough to grab theses bargains, do not fear! You can still get 15% off current season offerings at www.welovefrugi.com with discount code BORIS. Frugi offer FREE standard UK delivery and accept paypal too!

If you manage to get to one of the pop up sales, do come back here and let me know what you bought! I'd love to read about your Frugi loveliness!

Happy Shopping!

#Miosolochallenge Day #4 - The Daddy Challenge!

So yesterday was Day four of the #miosolochallange And Bambino mio asked us to find someone who doesn't usually change baby or is not used to reusable nappies to have a go! Now although 'Daddy' does his bit, he freely admits that the cloth nappies we use on Elizabeth confuse him and tries to avoid changing her botty when possible, claiming 'I'll get it all wrong and she'll leak!'.

On a few occasions that he has changed her we have had some 'disasters! There was the time when Daddy was on Nappy duty last Summer, we went out to the park and after playing on the swings for a bit I noticed that Elizabeth's leggings looked very wet! My first thought was that the swing had been wet when she sat on it, until I noticed the smell! Pulling her leggings down I discovered that Daddy had put an empty pocket nappy on her! Just the cover, with no insert!!
Now I don't know how much of his 'confusion' with cloth nappies is an excuse to get out of the smelly job of 'changing time' and how much is actually true. But I decided to challenge him to use the Miosolo's to see how he coped with such a simple to use all in one nappy! And to make the challenge even trickier I would not be there to help him!

Yesterday after work I was attending a meeting to discuss creating a local Abundance group as part of the Incredible Edible project I am involved in, So it was up to Daddy to pick Ben and Elizabeth up from School and nursery then feed and entertain them until bedtime!
I left him full instructions on how to use the nappies and reminded him again when I spoke to him on the phone at lunch time!

This to me was the ultimate test! I have been using the Solo's for a few days now and am very impressed with their performance but I am used to using real nappies! If Daddy can use the Miosolo then next week I will be adding it to the part of our 'stash' that I am comfortable sending to nursery!
When my daughter started nursery earlier in the month, we went on quite a few 'settlng in' visits and I demonstrated cloth nappies to all the staff that would be caring for her, they were fab about it and are really surprised how easy they are to use!  I have a mixture of different types of nappies and there are some that I favour when packing the nursery bag, these are ones I am confident won't leak or wick, and that won't confuse the lovely staff!

So how did he cope?

When I arrived home the children were tucked up in bed and the house was (relatively) tidy! There was no sign of any sort of disaster (nappy related or otherwise!) so I breathed a sigh of relief!
Daddy's verdict...
Daddy had changed E's botty twice in the time that I had been out and had even had a poopy one to deal with! He told me...

'They're really simple to use, I like the strong velcro and they feel really soft on E's skin, the flimsy bit inside (he means the flushable liner!) was a bit fiddly to put in but was really easy to just tip in the loo when it was dirty'
When I asked if he'd be comfortable using them again, his response was... 'yeah, why not?'
Now Mr Mymummyspennies YOU HAVE NO MORE EXCUSES!!
So Daddy (and Elizabeth!) survived this challenge and I now feel confident enough to send the Miosolo's into nursery next week!

#miosolochallenge Day#3 The overnight challenge

So Bambino Mio have challenged me to use the Miosolo on Elizabeth overnight! Although I have been using cloth on her botty at night since she was around six months old I have a specific part of my nappy stash that I keep as 'night time nappies', (these are made of bamboo, are bulkier that the others and take longer to dry but I know that they are thirsty enough to last the night!) So I was quite nervous about using such a slimfitting, microfibre nappy overnight even if I have been very impressed with it's performance so far!
There are a number of reasons why a nighttime nappy needs to be so much more absorbent that one that we would use during the day...

Elizabeth still breastfeeds during the night, so unlike some babies who sleep through and barely wee over night in contrast Elizabeth is quite a heavy night time wetter!

The obvious issue is the length of time its on, instead of the usual three (or at a stretch 4 hours) The cloth covering Elizabeth's botty at night has to last 11 hours! That's nearly 4 times longer!

The other main issue is that Elizabeth co-sleeps with Mummy and Daddy, so if her nappy was to leak its not just a case of quickly whipping on a new cot sheet and changing her jimjams, we would have to change all our bedding, which is not something I want to be doing in the middle of the night!
To make sure the Miosolo was as absorbant as possible we u
sed the Mioboost with it for the first time. The mioboost is an addition booster made from a highly absorbent, lightweight fibre that can absorb several times it's own weight!

Getting ready for bed....

We used the peppermint cream miosolo for this challenge and I have to say I love the colour! This definitely my favourite from the bonbon collection and would again look just as gorgeous either on a boy or a girl! A beautiful 'green' nappy for 'green' parents!!

To make sure the Miosolo was as absorbant as possible we used the Mioboost with it for the first time. The mioboost is an additional booster made from a highly absorbent, lightweight fibre that can absorb several times it's own weight!

The Miosolo comes with a very handy little pocket to slip one end of the mioboost in to keep it in place, once this is in you just tuck the inner into the pocket add the liner and there you have it! An all in one nappy with enough extra absorbency to last the night...  hopefully!
When putting the nappy on Elizabeth's botty I did notice the extra mass of the mioboost, it was noticeably bulkier on her, but at night this doesn't really matter as her jimjams are nice and stretchy! (and the cloth nappies we usually wear at night are quite bulky too!)

Elizabeth went down well after a bedtime story with her big brother and seemed comfortable in the miosolo.

The next morning....
So we ended up having a really bad night, the worst in quite a while, but the nappy was not to blame....
Elizabeth is getting two back teeth through and it is causing her a lot of discomfort and pain. (Isn't teething the worst?! I just wish I could go through it for her!) We were up for about half the night and for most of it she was completely inconsolable, poor sweetie pie...
On a few occasions through the night I did wonder whether the nappy was adding to her discomfort, but I checked it periodically and it had not leaked or wicked and her skin inside was dry, so it was just those horrid meanie teeth!
We did finally get to sleep, then (what felt like) 5 minutes later the alarm went off, beginning the morning rush! I was slightly surprised but pleased to find that both the bed sheets and Elizabeth's Pyjamas were completely dry, there had been no leaks! When I removed the nappy her skin was slightly damp and the liner had stuck to her skin a little but it did not leave a mark when I removed it, and her skin was not red or appear to be sore.

So another successful challenge! Although I already have preferred cloth nappies for night, I find it really useful to know that with the Mio solos and a Mioboost I know have a spare nappy that will last the nighttime if needed!

#Miosolochallenge Day #2 - The out and about challenge...

So today was Day 2, the out & about Challenge!
Unfortunately Elizabeth is teething quite badly at the moment and was a bit poorly today so we didn't get to go very far! However we did need to pop out for a 'top up' shop, run some errands and return some books to the library then visit the grandparents! This meant a trip out in the pram and then a car journey.
I always worry that some cloth nappies will wick when Elizabeth is strapped into the buggy or the car seat for a period of time Obviously it is important that the straps are tight(ish) and secure but with some cloth nappies this can put too much pressure on the fabric and cause wicking , meaning that Elizabeth's skin gets wet and clammy. If this happens Elizabeth is likely to develop nappy rash, which although never a nice thing, would be even worse at the moment as she is already in pain and discomfort with her poorly toothy pegs coming through! I have certain types of nappy that I am very confident to use in the car (usually minky outers) but as The miosolo was new to me I had no idea how it would cope!
So it was with quite a bit of apprehension that I got the lovely and bright 'Sherbet Lemon' MioSolo out to put on Elizabeth.
We walked out to the shops with Elizabeth in the pram, picked up our bits and pieces, ran a few errands and then popped into the library. After returning the books , I took Elizabeth over to the 'Children's corner' and got her out of the buggy to have a play. At this point the Miosolo had been on for around an hour and a half, so as I lifted her out I had a quick feel of her jeans to make sure there were no damp patches, but she was completely dry and eagar to explore her new surroundings! We has a lovely play with the toys in the library, read some books and had a little toddle around! Elizabeth is fascinated by other children so got very giggly when an older little girl came over to talk to her!
Before leaving the library I wondered whether it would be worth going in the 'babychange room' and popping a new nappy on before the car journey to Granny's (just to be on the safe side) but when I had a quick sniff of Elizabeth's botty (classy I know!!) It smelt clean and she seemed happy and comfortable so I took a chance and left it!
Daddy picked us up in the car and off we went to Granny's and Grandads!
After we had arrived and Elizabeth had been thoroughly fussed over I sneaked her away to change her. Taking the Miosolo off I was very pleased to discover her skin was clean and dry inside the nappy with no sigh of clamminess or a rash! The miosolo had been on for around three and half hours at this point which is a bit longer than I would usually leave a cloth nappy. I was quite impressed, especially with Elizabeth having been strapped in both her pram and her car seat during that time!
I flushed away the liner and popped the wetnappy into our funky green Bambino mio wetbag (not provided as part of the challenge, we already had this) ready to tip into the bucket when we got home!
So on the second day of the challenge I have been impressed again by the Miosolo and it's performance while out and about!
