My Favourite Freebies and Samples of the Month - May

If there is anything I love more than finding a great bargain it's getting something for free! I always keep an eye out for freebies and samples and share them across my social media channels (make sure you follow Mymummyspennies Twitter, Facebook Page and the money saving group so you don't miss anything!) but as I've found quite a few recently I thought i'd bring them together here on the blog. If it's popular I was also thinking of making it a monthly feature... What do you think?

These are each worth £10  so definitely worth the £3.99 price of the magazine! I chose the Wild Rose and have been using it every day!

Free Clinique Wonder Serum with June Issue of In Style Magazine (£3.99 spend)

Buy the June edition of InStyle magazine and get a mini (10ml size) of the fabulous Clinique Smart Custom Repair Serum. Based on the RRP of the £100 mil version this is worth £11. I've not tried this yet but do love Clinique products and a few of my friends have highly recommended it!

Have you heard of Loom Bands? If you have children over the age of four I'm guessing that you probably have! If not let me give you a brief introduction... 

What are Loom Bands?

Loom Bands are small plastic bands in bright colours that you are soon going to start finding everywhere... Yes, everywhere, so far I've discovered them in my cereal, in the bath and inside my favourite book!

Apart from popping up all over your home they also have a purpose, which is to be weaved into  colourful bracelets. This can be done either on a plastic loom or on your fingers, thanks to youtube tutorials, using a fork to weave them has become quite popular too!

Designs range from really simple bracelets to much more complex and extravagant, I've even seen Disney characters made out of them!

The craze has even taken the celebrity world by storm with the likes of David Beckham and even Kate Middleton the Duchess of Cambridge spotted wearing the colourful Loom Bracelets.

Don't be fooled by the bright colours and idea of bracelets, loom bands are a great activity for both girls and boys!

My six year old son enjoys watching youtube tutorials and searching Pinterest then being creative with the bands, I think it's a great activity to help improve fine motor skills and encourage independence, especially for children like Ben who is Dyspraxic and has Hypermobility.

I've been meaning to share this for a while but hadn't got round to it, so apologies that this is a bit last minute as it ends at midnight on Wednesday!

• A standard day return for myself and my son to travel from Manchester to London and back in June is £120
• With the Family and friends railcard, that goes down to just £70
• That's a fabulous saving of £50!

In order to take advantage of the discount, at least one child and one adult must be travelling and it's valid for up to a maximum of four adults and four children. Technically it's for children age 5 to 15 as under 5's benefit from free train travel but it can sometimes work out cheaper to buy a ticket for your younger child if you are travelling with them!

 The ‘50 Things to do before you’re 11¾’ campaign is in response to a report commissioned by the National Trust which highlighted research that fewer than one in ten children regularly play in wild places compared to almost half a generation ago, and a third have never climbed a tree!

I find this awful too read, both our children love running around playing outside whatever the weather! My husband runs a scout group so we're never short of ideas for outdoor fun! Ben at just four has already visited Daddy on scout camps and helped to collect wood, build shelters and make campfires!

This fab new 50 Things to do before you’re 11¾ campaign provides a checklist for under-12s (and those who are young at heart!) including everything from running around in the rain and bug hunting, to setting up a snail race, damming a stream, flying a kite and growing your own veg!

To help bring to life these simple pleasures, the Trust has formed a group of Elite Rangers who will share their expert tips on enjoying outdoor adventures and their enthusiasm for encouraging children to play alfresco.

The five rangers, all Trust staff, come from across the UK and range in age from 29 to 49. They include a 6ft 3” tree climbing expert, who has scaled 50 metre-high trees, (a.k.a. Tree Man), Captain Skim who can skim a stone over 26 times and Midas the treasure hunter. The other rangers are Den-Boy, an outdoor hideaway-building champion, and a mini beast expert (aka The Bug Catcher).

The fantastic five will be offering top tips on their chosen skill to the nation’s children over a Free Weekend (21st and 22nd April) when the National Trust will open up over 200 of its houses and gardens for free over the weekend, as well as all the countryside spaces it cares for, which are always free access.
