Mummy Saving Review - The MAM Perfect Soother

The lovely people from MAM kindly sent us one of their new 'Perfect Soothers' to try! Here's what we thought...

As you will be aware, unlike our eldest who took to a 'Dodi' rather quickly, Elizabeth has never really taken to them until recently. And even now she has started to take them, I only give it at nap time to try and settle her down away from the breast.

So my first impressions...

The soother arrived in it's own little sterilisable travel box, that has a little clip inside for it to sit in so the 'nipple' part never touches the sides, the box is transparent so immediately I could see the colour and design of the soother and I loved it! The design we had been sent was the 'Sweet Pink Funky' and its very cute! Now I would never choose something like this solely based on the look of it, I would choose functionally and safety over aesthetics every time... However its nice to have both! The main round part of the soother is gold with bright pink swirls, and the outer parts are a translucent pink, these outer parts are very thin and have large ventilation holes, this gives baby's skin air to breathe and helps prevent rashes. If pink is not your little ones colour, it's also available in funky green and blue designs! The one that was sent to us was a 6 months + style, it is also available in 0 months +

So why is this soother 'Perfect?'

The MAM website states...

The goal of intense medical and technical research, in cooperation with internationally recognized experts, was to design a pacifier that reduces the risk of misaligned teeth. Thanks to Dento-Flex®, the MAM Perfect’s teat neck is 60% thinner and 3 times softer* and more adaptable than standard soothers! So that nothing gets in the way of healthy dental development.

Now although Elizabeth's toothy pegs are yet to appear, experts say that right from the start, even before the first teeth become visible, Mummies should choose a soother that supports bite development.

Just by looking at the MAM perfect soother, you can see it's visibly thinner than other soothers available and by touching it you can tell its a lot softer and more flexible!

The general rule of thumb is the thinner, softer, and more adaptable the nipple neck is, the better for babies' jaw's and teeth.

The MAM Perfect Soother is BPA free and is available with MAM's patented Silk Teat.

Putting it to the test...

Before Elizabeth could use the soother it needed to be sterilised. The soother came with a handy 'Steriliser box' and simple to follow instructions on how to use it! You simply fill the box to the marked line with 25ml of water, pop the soother into the handy clip, teat down, close box and heat in the microwave for 3 minutes, leaving to cool for at least 5 minutes before opening. Drain water and leave in open box to dry. So simple and much better for families like us that don't use bottles so never fill a full sized steriliser!

Once sterilised I gave to Elizabeth at her next nap time. She held it for a moment, had a good look at it then popped it in her mouth! It stayed in her mouth throughout her afternoon doze!

Although compared to other's available this is quite pricey at an RRP of £5.50 for one soother, MAM often run offers and promotions so it's always worth keeping an eye out on their website or facebook page.
