You can sign up to get a completely free two month Family & Friends Railcard which will save you up to a third on adult fares and 60% on children's fares!
Sign up here to get your free Railcard that will expire on 31st of July. You will also be given the opportunity to get a £10 discount on an annual railcard which usually costs £30, in my opinion this is definitely worth doing if you use rail travel with your children!
We've had a railcard for over three years now and the savings really add up. I've started to take my 6 year old son down to London for some great events and I really don't think i'd have been able to do so without the discounts the family & friends railcard offers.
Here's an example:
- A standard day return for myself and my son to travel from Manchester to London and back in June is £120
- With the Family and friends railcard, that goes down to just £70
- That's a fabulous saving of £50!
In order to take advantage of the discount, at least one child and one adult must be travelling and it's valid for up to a maximum of four adults and four children. Technically it's for children age 5 to 15 as under 5's benefit from free train travel but it can sometimes work out cheaper to buy a ticket for your younger child if you are travelling with them!
So be quick and grab this offer before midnight on 21st June 2014 and start saving on your rail travel!
Great tip - thanks for sharing. We have had one of these deals before a couple of years ago and I have considered signing up for a travelcard again but often miss the deals. Signed up for the free 2 mths and may well take out one for a year after that!
